Instagram: recognition, dissatisfaction, and a re-think
If I look at instagram’s input costs (hours shooting and editing photographs) vs. the payoff (fleeting feedback on my work) it’s clear that the ratio is out of whack. The platform still has its value but needs to be used in a way that supports more tangible gains instead of getting in the way of achieving them.

Observation: a therapeutic gesture
At a time when digital technology has enabled an “always on” flow of media that constantly vies for our attention, trying to tell us what to think, do, and consume, the simple act of going for a walk, clearing the mind, and observing the everyday interactions that take place around water bodies is a powerful, therapeutic gesture.

An upcoming group show (‘Unforeseen Landscapes’) at the PH Centre, in Cape Town, explores humanity’s complex relationship with the natural world. The show opens June 13 and includes 24 local photographers. I’m pleased to be taking part.
