A newfound appreciation for nature
Last year’s lockdowns gave me a newfound appreciation for the natural world. Emerging onto local hiking trails after weeks at home, I found myself with a deep interest in the trees, plants and flowers that I had walked past many times before.
Over the past months, I have been paying attention to the textures, symmetry and often understated beauty of the natural world. The more I pay attention the more I see.
This has taken my photography in a different direction. I’m enjoying the quiet, thoughtful way of shooting and the process of interpreting scenes without a person in the frame. I’m spending a lot more time photographing in nearby nature reserves.
I’m slowly piecing together a new series (title undecided). If I’m able to capture just a fraction of nature’s effortless beauty in my pictures I’ll be happy.
